An Acne Medicine Caused Severe Bowel Disease? So Now We Know
Innumerable Americans suffer from health issues, and many may have some idea why. They've got high blood pressure because they’re overweight. Their leg is painful since they strained a muscle while jogging. But with significant digestive disorders like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, victims may wonder “Why me?” – especially when nobody else in their family has experienced an IBD, or inflammatory bowel disease.
Now they are learning that their bowel disease may well be due to a blemish medicine. They’re learning that they may well endure lifelong gastrointestinal ailments because they used Accutane, a so-called “miracle drug” for acne treatment but a bowel bane for people who have used it.
Even though Accutane can clear up acne, it also can cause an IBD so extreme that the sufferer must have their colon taken out. And IBDs such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are not curable, ultimately causing a lifetime of pain, treatments and surgical treatments. This is all as a result of an oral acne medication prescribed between its 1982 introduction and its elimination from the market in 2009.
At fault for such seemingly unrelated yet destructive Accutane side effectsAccutane side effects is Isotretinoin, a powerful drug, which Roche Pharmaceuticals placed in Accutane. Swiss-based Roche is now facing a slew of Accutane lawsuits in America – which to date have proven effective, awarding a handful of victims a total of $56 million.
Yet Accutane remains available, in spite of dire warnings from the Food and Drug Administration, which has referred to it as “potentially dangerous.” Today it’s still marketed as generic Accutane, now known as Claravis, Amnesteem and Sotret. These drugs, too, harbor Isotretinoin, which fights acne through boosting Vitamin A while decreasing the oils released by the body’s glands.
Unfortunately, Isotretinoin also can cause Crohn’s disease, which affects any part of the intestinal tract, causing cramps and bleeding. Accutane and active ingredient Isotretinoin also can cause ulcerative colitis, an inflammation and ulceration of the colon’s internal lining. The two conditions can create severe abdominal pain that may come and go, yet never fully leave the body of an IBD victim.
Some such victims are fighting back in the form of an Accutane Lawsuit against negligent Roche. This can be waged in any of America’s 50 states through the attorney group called Accutane-Lawsuit-Lawyers.com. A free case assessment form on its website can start the whole process of attaining substantial financial reward for Accutane injuries. Or Accutane victims can phone toll-free to 1-800-339-0606. Either way, a legal representative will respond promptly to help them evaluate their Accutane case.
Meanwhile, Roche is rich, having accumulated billions of dollars in gains over the years via a drug that it was aware was defective but continued selling anyway. Roche has permitted Accutane injuries to continue with the rationale that paying millions of dollars in future lawsuit verdicts or settlements would hardly eclipse the billions of dollars in gains to be made with the defective medication. This unconscionable carelessness to public safety should not stand – and need not stand, with help from Accutane-Lawsuit-Lawyer.com.
